About ASSE
Founded in 1911, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is the world’s oldest professional safety society. ASSE promotes the expertise, leadership and commitment of its members, while providing them with professional development, advocacy and standards development. It also sets the occupational safety, health and environmental community’s standards for excellence and ethics.
Who We Are
ASSE is a global association of occupational safety professionals representing more than 34,000 members worldwide. The Society is also a visible advocate for SH&E professionals through proactive government affairs at the federal and state levels, and in member-led relationships with key federal safety and health agencies.
Our members create safer work environments by preventing workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses. Besides recording less lost time and lower workers’ compensation costs, organizations with strong safety performance enjoy increased productivity, a better reputation and higher employee satisfaction.
Why Join ASSE?

ASSE members have direct access to over 34,000 SH&E professionals through our 151 chapters, 8 regions, 40 sections and 65 student sections around the world. Members are also able to participate in ASSE’s 17 practice specialties, 8 branches and 4 common interest groups. Networking enables ASSE members to share their knowledge and exchange best practices with other industry experts.
Professional Development:
ASSE is accredited as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard. Our programs include webinars, certification preparation and our annual Professional Development Conference. CEUs are also automatically earned through your ASSE membership.
Publications:
By producing thought leading journals, technical and management publications, blogs and e-newsletters our members have access to updates and insight into cutting-edge topics and issues facing the safety profession.
Career Search Enhancement:
Employers can connect with thousands of safety, health and environmental professionals through ASSE’s Nexsteps Career Center (www.nexsteps.org), which enables employers to post job openings, and members to post resumes. Additional recruiting opportunities are available at our annual Future Safety Leadership Conference, and through our more than 25 ASSE LinkedIn sites.
