PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has been seriously injured after a reported explosion Wednesday afternoon at a semiconductor facility in north Phoenix.
Around 2:45 p.m., multiple fire crews and hazmat teams from Phoenix, Glendale and Daisy Mountain responded to the TSMC plant that’s under construction along 43rd Avenue just north of the Loop 303.Details are extremely limited, but Phoenix Fire officials say a man who works at the site was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries after an explosion was reported in the area. TSMC, short for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, is the world’s largest contract chipmaker. The company first announced plans for a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Phoenix in May 2020 and began construction in July 2022.
Production is expected to start in 2025.
In addition to its existing location, TSMC has also announced plans to expand in the Valley with two more manufacturing facilities.
